Brekkie.

Trigger warning: food intake, weight loss.

Do I really need brekkie on most days?

I’m starting to think not.

I get up at around 9:30am and don’t feel hungry until around noon. Sometimes even later.

I am learning hunger cues again, really.

Let’s talk about this.

When my liver wasn’t in good shape, I started eating 3 meals a day as a blind rule, simply because I had no cues to rely on. I wouldn’t receive a hunger cue but also would feel like I’m about to collapse if I kept waiting for the hunger cue to arrive! Tricky.

Now per my latest health reports, I appear to be in a better shape on the inside. It makes sense to learn my body again.

I’ve been talking to Olivia, who also has slow metabolism like me, and my mum… and I have received some collective wisdom. It’s not that I don’t feel hungry, it’s that I am eating too much, whenever I do, for the hunger cue to never fall below a 5 or a 6 throughout the day. Combine this with stress which brings bloating, and my day is a majority of 7.

Smaller meals have in recent weeks begun to make me feel hungry more than once a day. Which is…new. I’m trying to manage my stress as well. Learning better mental habits. I’m sure that must be helping too. Right?

All I need to do now is lean in to my hunger cues, eat a mix of junk (it’s unavoidable really… I need some happy foods) and healthy foods, and figure out how to still lose weight. Weight I do need to lose as that’s one of the only markers in my health report that is alarming. Simply cutting sugar out is not the answer to solving this. There is a bigger picture here. I’ve had Winnie Lim’s blog post open for several days now. There are probably lots of insights there.
